South Carolina Registered Architect Seal Requirements

Every architect and firm practicing in this state shall have a seal, the impression of which shall contain the name, the place of business, and the words "Registered Architect, State of South Carolina" with which they shall stamp all drawings, prints, and specifications for use in their profession.

Description of Registrant's Seal. The seal shall be circular in shape and 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Concentric with the outside of the seal there shall be a circle 1 3/16 inches in diameter; in the annular space between the circle and the outside of the seal shall be the words "State of South Carolina" at the top and "Registered Architect" at the bottom. The name of only one (1) architect, business location, and registration number shall be placed within the inner circle.

Description of Firm Seals. The seal shall be circular in shape and 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Concentric with the outside of the seal there shall be a circle 1 3/16 inches in diameter; in the annular space between the circle and the outside of the seal shall be the words "State of South Carolina" at the top and "Registered Architects" at the bottom. The name, business location, and license number of the firm shall be placed within the inner circle.

South Carolina Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor Seal Requirements

Each licensee and each firm practicing under a certificate of authorization shall obtain a seal of the design authorized by the board and must comply with the following: Individual seals must be under the personal custody and control of the licensee and bear the licensee’s name, registration license number, and the legend “Professional Engineer” or “Professional Surveyor” except for licenses issued before July 1, 2001 which may have the legend “Registered Professional Engineer” or “Registered Land Surveyor”. The seal also shall bear evidence of the license category for professional engineers and the tier designation for professional surveyors. Seals for firms practicing under a certificate of authorization must bear the firm’s name and authorization number.

Description of Licensee’s Seal. The seal of engineers and surveyors licensed by the Board shall be at least 1 1/2 inches in diameter and similar to that prescribed for the Board. In the center there shall appear the registration number of the licensee along with the words:

  • "Registered Professional Engineer", for Category A engineers licensed prior to July 1, 2001.
  • "Licensed Professional Engineer", for Category A engineers licensed after July 1, 2001.
  • "Associate Professional Engineer - Restricted License", for Category B engineers.
  • "Professional Engineer and Surveyor", for Category A engineers holding dual registration.
  • "Professional Land Surveyor", for Tier A land boundary surveyors.
  • "Professional Photogrammetric Surveyor", for photogrammetric surveyors.
  • "Professional GIS Surveyor", for geographic information systems surveyors.
  • "Professional Land Surveyor - Tier B", for Tier B land surveyors.

In the space between the circle and the outside of the seal shall appear the words, “South Carolina” and the name of the registrant. Rubber stamps or computer generated seals, identical in size, design and content with the approved impression seals may be used by the registrant where the use of an impression seal is not specifically required.

Description of Firm’s Seal. The seal evidencing issuance of a Certificate of Authorization by this Board shall be at least 1 1/2 inches in diameter and similar to that prescribed for the Board. In the center there shall appear the name of the certificate holder and the assigned Certificate of Authorization number. In the space between the circle and the outside of the Seal there shall appear the words “South Carolina” and the words “Certificate of Authorization”. Rubber stamps, impression seals, or computer-generated seals, identical in size, design and content with the approved impression seals may be used by the firm.

South Carolina Forester Seal Requirements

Each registered forester may use an impression seal or stamp on his plans, maps, specifications and reports. The seal shall be circular, 1 5/8 inches in diameter and the stamp shall be 1 and ¾ inches in diameter both of which are standard size.

South Carolina Landscape Architect Seal Requirements

A landscape architect, upon licensure, shall obtain a seal of the design authorized by the board, bearing the name of the licensee, number of certificate or license, and the legend “South Carolina Registered Landscape Architect” or “South Carolina Licensed Landscape Architect”.
